When Tula was diagnosed with lymphoma, our world narrowed as chemotherapy replaced our long walks in nature. In response, I began to paint. What started as a single colored-pencil sketch of a California poppy—drawn in a moment of profound sorrow—slowly grew into a lush, tranquil garden of light and color that filled our home. These paintings were created specifically for Tula, intended to bring the vibrant healing of the earth indoors so she could experience the beauty during her treatment. She was not merely an observer; she was an active participant in the energy of every brushstroke.

These hallowed fields served as the crucible for my own soul’s journey. By transforming suffering into sentient blooms, I discovered my mission. Tula passed away in September 2024; by October, I had taken my first steps as a professional artist. The pain of her loss became the catalyst for my evolution, proving that our deepest heartbreaks can serve as the soil for our most significant growth.

In this series, I invite you to walk the same path of transformation I have traveled. These canvases are more than floral studies; they are an exploration of the deep connection between the earth and the spirit. They honor Tula as a sentient being and celebrate the dignity of her transition.
